In a statement issued on March 21, 2025, the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF), backed by senior cross-party members of both Houses of Parliament, strongly condemned a character assassination campaign against Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), recently published in French media.

The Committee linked the timing of the defamatory article to the release of a French hostage, warning that such appeasement only emboldens the Iranian regime’s hostage diplomacy and state-sponsored terrorism. They cited previous cases such as the release of convicted terrorist diplomat Assadollah Assadi in exchange for hostages and called for stronger European action, including sanctions, embassy closures, and prosecution of Iranian agents. The Committee reaffirmed its support for Mrs. Rajavi and her Ten-Point Plan for a free, democratic, and secular Iran.
