'That's the reality': Everton player admits he wants to leave Goodison Park after David Moyes…

Everton will be waving goodbye to a number of their players at the end of the season.

David Moyes has inherited a squad with numerous players coming to the end of their contracts in the summer.

The Friedkins are gearing up for a busy summer at Everton in what will be their first proper transfer window to invest in the squad.

Everton are going to need to splash some cash just to make the numbers up with a double-digit number of players potentially headed for the door.

Decisions are now being made on the future of these players, with Everton allowing Abdoulaye Doucoure to leave.

And there is now one other player – soon to be out of contract – who has admitted he is eyeing a potential move abroad.

There are still a number of players who Everton would be keen to hand a new contract to ahead of the season ending.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is on Everton’s radar for a new deal after another impressive campaign in the middle, but there will be plenty of departures.

Speaking to Estadio Deportivo, backup goalkeeper Joao Virginia has now admitted he is not satisfied with sitting on the bench.

“As a player, my ambition isn’t to be a second choice for long, but that’s the reality I have at Everton. What I have to do is work every day and push Pickford to be better as well,” he said.

“I think the most important thing now is playing time. With minutes comes experience. So, the most important thing now will be playing, and I think that’s the point that will take me to another level.”

Virginia has said it’s unlikely he’ll be offered a new contract at Everton, with just a matter of months remaining on his current deal.

And it seems as if the 25-year-old has his eyes set on regular football and would like to do that in La Liga.

Everton’s Joao Virginia wants to play in La Liga

After joining from Arsenal in 2018, Virginia has really struggled to make a name for himself on Merseyside because of Jordan Pickford.

Virginia has been exploring his options ahead of the summer since the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has not played regular football since the 2022/23 campaign during his loan spell with SC Cambuur.

After years in England, Virginia has admitted he would welcome a move closer to his original home in Portugal and La Liga would be a big appeal to him.

“The Spanish league is a league I love. Perhaps playing there one day would be an excellent option for me, but it’s too early to talk about it. We have to see what happens in the market,” Virginia added.

“There are many similarities [between Spain and Portugal]; I love Spain, its culture, and it would be like coming home.”
