Liverpool are currently on the lookout for top defensive talent to strengthen their squad.
The Reds have been linked with a number of defenders ranging from Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez to Ajax’s Jorrel Hato.
This season, another young defender has been catching the attention of major European clubs, with Liverpool among those closely monitoring his progress.
A strong, composed center-back with technical ability is exactly the kind of profile Arne Slot’s side values, and his recent performances at the international level have only heightened interest in his services.
The youngster has already been linked to Liverpool but the Merseyside outfit aren’t the only ones keen on the 19 years old.
One club that has been following his progress closely is Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants have been monitoring him throughout the season and have already made contact with his representatives.
However, they are not alone in the race.
A Premier League club has now emerged as a serious competitor, setting up a potential transfer battle.
Chelsea enter race to sign defender
According to Marca, Chelsea are now also closely monitoring Dean Huijsen.
The Bournemouth center-back impressed in his first game for Spain’s national team, proving that he is ready for the big stage.
As per the report from Marca, Chelsea and Real Madrid both had scouts at the match, closely watching his performance.
Madrid has not yet made a final decision on whether to push for his signing, but their interest is clear.
Huijsen has acknowledged it, saying, “It’s an honor for me that Real Madrid is focusing on my game, but right now I’m only concerned with continuing at this level until the end of the season, and then we’ll see what happens.”
His display against the Netherlands was a statement.
He showed quality, composure, and the ability to handle pressure.
Madrid’s coaches and directors were reportedly pleased with his response in such a demanding match.
Now, with Chelsea “presenting themselves as the great rival”, the battle for his signature could become even more intense.
