The 2025 NFL draft is right around the corner and will begin on April 24 and run through April 26. Colorado Buffaloes star wide receiver and cornerback combo Travis Hunter is one of the most popular names in NFL circles leading up to the draft.
At this point in time, Hunter is being projected by most mock drafts to be a top-five pick.
Hunter put together a strong college career on both sides of the football. One of the biggest questions surrounding him is whether he will focus on one position or the other in the NFL or if his new team will try to let him play both ways.
Recently, Hunter spoke out with his desire to prove that he could play both positions at the NFL level. His quote came in response to Travis Kelce saying that Hunter would have to prove that he can do it professionally.
"Like he said, I have to prove that I can do it. So that's my main thing. Imma prove that I'm gonna do it and I can do it," Hunter said. "So he's not telling no lie. I still got to prove it. You know, I just can't go to the league and they just, 'Oh, here you go, Trav, you could do all this,' and I don't go out and show up how I'm supposed to show up."
In a new mock draft, Mike Band of NFL.com has predicted that a surprising AFC team will make a major trade up for Hunter. The landing spot that he has projected would potentially offer Hunter a chance to play both sides of the football.
He has predicted that the New York Jets will trade up from No. 7 to No. 5 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Band believes that the Jets would trade the No. 7 pick and a 2025 third-round pick to the Jaguars to make the deal happen.
"The Jets need help opposite Garrett Wilson at receiver and Sauce Gardner at cornerback, making New York an ideal spot for Hunter to showcase his rare two-way talent," Band wrote. "It would be fitting for former Jets corner/current head coach Aaron Glenn to select a ball-hawking playmaker with his first pick on the job."
During the 2024 college football season with Colorado, Hunter caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a wide receiver. He also totaled 35 tackles, a forced fumble, four interceptions, and 11 defended passes as a cornerback.
