The Buffalo Bills know how important having a veteran wide receiver is for a team competing for championships. And to their credit, this offseason they have taken out the checkbook to get some things done in that receivers room.
But while Kahlil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and the recently-signed Joshua Palmer make for a solid trio, employing a veteran stud is something that has long worked for 2024 league MVP Josh Allen leading the way. ...
And could help him repeat that MVP feat in 2026. Oh, and help him win a Super Bowl, too.
Earlier in this Allen era, the Bills relied on All-Pro wideout Stefon Diggs to carry them at times. Following last year's trade of the disgruntled wideout, though, the Bills have been trying to find a quality receiver to replace his production.
Shakir did his thing. Coleman was a first-round rookie. Palmer will be asked to step up.
But you'll notice that Amari Cooper is being asked to step out of the way, a midseason trade get that didn't work.
And you'll notice that Diggs, rehabbing his knee after a stint with the Houston Texans, seems to be trying to hint his way back to Buffalo.
But maybe there is one more idea.
One better idea.
One available free agent is exactly the kind of player Buffalo needs as well.
From our Mike Fisher, who calls Allen "the anti-Diggs'' ...
"Keenan is 32 years old, so it figures to be his time to ring-chase. He's been doing this for 12 years and has participated in five playoff games.
"He's a six-time Pro Bowler who I think could be convinced to put money on the back burner for a chance at a championship.''
Fish's point about that "anti-Diggs'' thing? Stefon seems to love the drama.
Keenan, meanwhile, has a quiet way of going about his job. ... and getting you seven TDs a year.''
The Bills have a handful of "maybes'' at receiver. Allen-to-Allen would represent more than that, as it would send shockwaves through an AFC group of foes that already harbors some fear here.
Buffalo should call. And Keenan should listen.
