The Dallas Mavericks could soon have Anthony Davis back on the floor for the critical final stretch of the season.
The former Los Angeles Lakers big man was the centerpiece of the trade that shipped Luka Doncic out of Dallas, but has been sidelined since suffering a left adductor strain amid a strong home debut on Feb. 8.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Mavericks may now have a return date penciled on their schedule. Stein reported that Davis is in "increasingly strong contention" to take the floor for the team's upcoming road stretch among Eastern Conference teams.
The Mavericks will spend the coming week facing off against Eastern Conference teams, taking on the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, the New York Knicks on Tuesday, the Orlando Magic on Thursday and capping off the road trip against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
Though the Mavericks have not yet confirmed a return date for Davis, the update from Stein follows the last major update from the team. The Mavericks announced in early March that there would be more clarity on his status as the month came to a close.
"Davis will be re-evaluated in two weeks with further updates to follow, as necessary," the team shared on March 8, via CBS News.
Though the Doncic trade deflated the hopes of fans and the Mavericks have lost eight of their last 10 games, the team remains in close contention for the Play-In Tournament. The Mavericks are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference, tied with the Phoenix Suns for the final spot in the tournament.
