Chicago Bulls Projected to Draft Son of Former Slam Dunk Champion

It's early–very early–but during the NCAA Tournament, fans of teams like the Chicago Bulls, who aren't serious title contenders, are looking for prospects who can help out during the 2025-26 season.

Despite the insane logjam in the backcourt for the Bulls, many draft prognosticators are predicting Chicago will look to take a guard with their first-round pick.If you've followed the often senseless roster construction concepts of Arturas Karnisovas, it shouldn't shock you.

In his latest mock draft on NBA.com, Jonathan Wasserman has the Chicago Bulls taking Michigan State guard Jase Richardson with the No. 8 pick in the draft. Richardson is the son of former Golden State Warriors star and two-time NBA Slam-Dunk Champion, Jason Richardson.

Wasserman compares Jase to promising Houston Rockets rookie Reed Sheppard. If Wasserman is accurate with that NBA comp, Bulls fans should be excited about the possibilities of adding a player of that ilk.

I loved Sheppard's leadership, craftiness off the dribble, willingness to defend and his ability to knock down shots from distance. I've seen some of those same qualities from Richardson with the Spartans.

However, as interesting as Richardson could be in a Bulls uniform, the first question Chicago's front office has to answer is what are we going to do with the wealth of guards we already have on the roster?

The newly-acquired Tre Jones is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Ayo Dosunmu, Josh Giddey and Coby White have all had their moments this past season, with the latter blazing hot over the past few weeks.

All three men could potentially bring back assets in a trade. As I said, it's early but if Richardson is indeed on the Bulls' radar, they'll need to drop at least two of the guards on their roster to make room.
