Jets’ ‘Double-Dip’ Rumor Threatens To Ruin Post-Rodgers QB Room

Maybe it's just a result of the stench left in the QB room from two wasted years with Aaron Rodgers in charge.

But now, suddenly, comes this idea that the solution at the quarterback spot in the post-Rodgers era is to throw kitchen-sink assets at it. ...

When all the New York Jets need to go is get one QB move - not two, just one - right.

There is speculation that the Jets might follow up the Justin Fields deal with another headline-grabber. And it is, at its core, a poor idea.

Fields and New York agreed to a two-year deal worth $40 million this offseason. The $30 million guaranteed is a good sign that the Jets are expecting the former first-round pick to be their starting quarterback in 2025.

It's a commitment. It's justified. This coaching staff and this scouting department signed on for the work in bringing out the "untapped potential'' (Fields' own words) in a guy who just a couple of years ago was a premium first-round pick in the NFL Draft.

And now there is speculation about a "double-dip'' at the QB spot. ... that threatens to undermine that work.

With rumors increasing concerning the Jets' interest in Ole Miss rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, speculation has grown regarding whether New York might be interested in taking the rookie with the seventh overall pick in April's Draft.

First question: Is Dart really on par with Miami's Cam Ward, the 2025 king of this quarterback class? Is he really on par with Colorado's Shedeur Sanders?

Dart, it is said, is considered a raw prospect who will need seasoning on the bench before looking like a starter.

But Dart is about to turn 22. Fields just turned 26 ... and he also needs "seasoning.''

It occurs to us that two young QBs in the same room might breed more controversy than it does competition.

And haven't the Jets had enough discontent in the QB room after the putrid reign of Aaron Rodgers?
