Steelers Planning To Draft Starting Quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot to think of when they think about Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.

After watching the former Crimson Tide signal-caller at his Pro Day last week, the Steelers have plenty of reason to like the quarterback enough to spend a draft choice on him in April's NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 217-pound ran a 4.37-sec. 40-yard dash at his Pro Day and the Pittsburgh front office and their fans are wondering about how that speed dimension would fit into Arthur Smith's offense which relies heavily on the run.

Chances are Milroe will not be selected in the first round of the draft. However, he could hear his name called on day two, which is rounds two and three.

During his final two seasons at Alabama, Milroe had a 65-percent completion rate. His accuracy was beyond reproach. He also threw for 5,678 yards and 39 touchdowns while only throwing 17 interceptions.

Milroe could use a year of seasoning at the professional level before he is ready to take over an NFL offense. Should the Steelers be able to sign Aaron Rodgers, for one season, he would be the perfect guy to sit and learn from.

The Steelers have to decide how high of a draft choice they want to spend on Milroe and his precision passing. He could go second day and Pittsburgh has to determine what he is worth to them.

The last time Pittsburgh drafted a quarterback was Kenny Pickett. He was a mistake the Steelers can ill afford to make again.
