In dumping out thousands of pages of previously classified material about John F Kennedy’s assassination, Donald Trump has inadvertently confirmed for the first time that the CIA has been spying on Irish intelligence officials.

Last week, the US president ordered the release of the remaining files relating to the murder in 1963 of JFK, unsealing a tranche of 1,123 documents which have been guarded for decades.
