Samsung Display said Sunday it aims for a 50 percent growth in the shipment of quantum dot (QD)-OLED monitor panels this year, announcing plans to boost the sales of new products.
According to the company, its shipment of QD-OLED panels for computer monitors stood at 1.43 million units last year, and it is ramping up supplies as this year’s shipment is expected to grow more than 50 percent from 2024.
The shipments of global OLED panels for monitors have experienced significant growth over the past few years. According to market tracker Omdia, global shipments reached approximately 2 million units last year, up from 820,000 units in 2023, 160,000 units in 2022 and 8,300 units in 2021. This marks a 300 percent increase during that period and a rapid market transition from LCD to OLED displays, particularly QD-OLED. Last year, with its QD-OLED monitor panels, Samsung Display held 71.2 percent of the market for OLED panels for monitors.
In line with this trend, Samsung Display said it is reinforcing its lineups for QD-OLED products. Earlier this year, the company launched a 27-inch ultra HD (3840 x 2160) monitor with a pixel density exceeding 160 pixels per inch, the highest among 27-inch self-emissive OLED gaming monitors. Pixel density measures how closely pixels are packed, providing a clearer measure of image quality.
Samsung Display also plans to roll out a 27-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) monitor in the first half of this year. Supporting a refresh rate of 500 hertz, the highest among current self-emissive monitors, the product is designed to deliver ultra-smooth visuals, coupled with a fast response time of approximately 0.03 milliseconds.
“The technological shift from LCD to OLED in the monitor market is expected to accelerate further, driven by the differentiated image quality and technological superiority demonstrated by QD-OLED,” Brad Jung, Samsung Display’s head of Large Display Marketing, said. “We will introduce various innovations and products to meet the expectations of our customers as quickly as possible.”
