ComplexCon, a major event in the international trends scene, began its three-day run at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong on Friday. Among the attendees was Bruce Bowen, a former NBA player known for his role in securing three championships for the San Antonio Spurs.

During an interview, Bowen discussed the Spurs' memorable 2005 Finals victory against the Detroit Pistons and addressed the notion that the NBA has lost its defensive edge. Contrary to this belief, Bowen argued that the evolving style of play enhances the game, particularly in the playoffs when defense intensifies.

Bowen, famed for his time with the Spurs' "Big Three"—Tim "Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginóbili—was invited by the NBA to ComplexCon. This visit marks his third to Hong Kong, where he engaged with fans and shared his skills.

The NBA today sees teams prioritizing three-point shots, leading to higher-scoring games. Bowen, however, believes that defensive play remains vital: "You see offensive plays never seen before, but defense hasn't disappeared. The game is improving," he said.

He also praised the Oklahoma City Thunder, currently leading the Western Conference, and highlighted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's significant impact, reminiscent of the Thunder's past stars.

Regarding the Spurs, Bowen expressed optimism about their future, particularly with the addition of Victor Wembanyama. He noted the energetic and defensive contributions of players like Stephon Castle and Jeremy Sochan.

Looking ahead, Bowen mentioned several teams to watch this season, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, the defending champions Boston Celtics, and the Thunder.

Bowen will continue interacting with fans at ComplexCon throughout the weekend.

This year, ComplexCon's Asian edition features performances by Metro Boomin, Korean pop group NJZ, and Hong Kong singer Jace Chan.

The NBA has set up an NBA Zone at the event, allowing fans to take photos with the Championship Trophy and explore themed booths for the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets ahead of their preseason games in Macau this October. The area also features spray paint artworks by local artists for the Nets, along with team merchandise.
