Cuss's final team talk will be 'from the heart' for title chasing Cherries

The AFC Bournemouth boss told the Daily Echo that he was told by a mentor to ‘go with his heart’ when speaking to players about a big occasion – and there will be no bigger game than this Sunday for much of the Cherries squad.

They face Bristol Rovers at the Vitality Stadium, knowing that a win will hand them the National League Division One South West title and promotion.

Asked about what his final team talk will look like, Cuss explained: “We have a little huddle just before we go out. We all stand up and get together.

“I try to take that from the heart at that point.

“So all the tactical information and the game information that I give to the players is always as correct as I can get it to be and as knowledgeable as I can.

“But a mentor of mine once told me when you get the chance to speak to the players about something, winning something or a scenario, go with your heart.

“So I'll do that every week and gauge the room, gauge the changing room and if it needs to be a rallying call it will be.

“If it needs to be a, ‘let's look at this message, look at this’, we'll judge it on the day but go with my heart at that point to again support what's best for the players.”

Once the first whistle goes, Cuss said there are some very strong leaders in the side to steer the ship from the pitch.

“Abby’s the captain and you're going to hear from Abby in a minute,” Cuss said.

“But she leads in a very unique style, leads by example.

“Very much a personal person that will go up and speak to players one to one and offer her support and I know she does that both on the pitch and off the pitch as well.

“We've got more senior players that might perhaps be a little bit more vocal at times around the situation which I think which is the real character of our team that we've got quiet, unassuming people that go about their business.

“We've got larger than life characters and we've got people that want to help each other as well.

“And as I've said before, you can't be successful without everybody working together.

“That balance that we've got of the dynamics in the group has worked very well this season and I'm sure they're going to be drawing on each other which obviously is going to be in a little bit different occasion on Sunday.

“They're going to need each other to draw on as well. So we're looking forward to it and every player will play their part.”
