The latest transfer news and rumours from Manchester United and Manchester City
Manchester City and Manchester United are both preparing for their respective returns to action with one eye on the summer transfer market while the business end of the season approaches.
City are back in action against Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter final next weekend before hosting Leicester City in their first Premier League game after the international break on April 2. United don’t return until April 1 as they travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest.
The Manchester clubs meet at Old Trafford in the final derby of the season on April 6, with the Red Devils winning the last meeting between the clubs with a dramatic 2-1 victory in mid-December. As both clubs prepare for their final stretch of games, plans will already be in motion ahead of the summer transfer window. Both sides will be disappointed by their respective Premier League positions this term and will aim to address some of those issues in the transfer market.
Arsenal close to new deal for Ethan Nwaneri amid previous Man City interest
Arsenal are ‘closing in’ on securing rising star Ethan Nwaneri on a new five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium after previous interest from Manchester City and Chelsea, per a report from the Daily Mail.
Nwaneri turned 18 on Saturday and the Gunners are now keen to secure his future in North London. The winger signed his first professional deal last year, although that was only a three-year contract due to FA rules over how many seasons a 17-year-old can commit too. Nwaneri has been handed a bigger role in Mikel Arteta’s side this season following an injury to Bukayo Saka.
He has grasped his opportunity with both hands, with eight goals in 29 games. Savinho has been used on the right by Pep Guardiola this season but has scored just twice in 38 games. He does have nine assists, however. While City have expressed a previous interest in Nwaneri, a move this summer looks highly unlikely as he prepares to commit his future in North London.
United learn Torres asking price
According to Fichajes, three Premier League clubs are showing a ‘strong interest’ in former Man City striker Ferran Torres. Currently plying his trade with Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa are monitoring his progress this season.
Unai Emery has already given his backing to Villa to pursue a deal. Barca are said to welcome a sale, if the price is right and they are reportedly ready to accept an offer of around £30m. The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 20 La Liga appearances this season. While he has returned good numbers for the Spanish giants this season, Barca’s financial situation means they cannot rule out a sale this summer.
Torres has been with Barca since 2022, as he joined the La Liga side from Man City. He arrived in Manchester for a reported fee of around £21m in the summer of 2020. He has scored 38 goals in 145 appearances for Barcelona.
