Manchester United have more injury concerns than most Premier League clubs as things stand
Manchester United still have over a week to wait before their return to action as they prepare for games with Nottingham Forest and Manchester City once the international break comes to a close.
The Red Devils’ main focus for the remainder of the season should be on the Europa League, as it gives Ruben Amorim a chance to win a major trophy in his first season while also securing a place in the Champions League. With United 13th in the Premier League, their hopes of finishing in a Champions League qualification spot are slim at best.
Amorim has been forced to deal with a host of injury problems in recent weeks, but has gone unbeaten in his last four games. United drew away at Real Sociedad and then held Arsenal to 1-1 draw before beating Sociedad at Old Trafford and winning 3-0 against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last weekend.
Nottingham Forest v Manchester United injury news: Doubts and maybes
United head to the City Ground on April 1, with Forest chasing a third-placed finish. The hosts don’t have any players on the cusp of returning to action but their injury issues are minimal as things stand - barring any concerns that might emerge from the international break.
Amorim will hope to have a string of key players back as Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Kobbie Mainoo all close in on a return to fitness. Maguire has not played since United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham while Yoro was injured in the draw with Arsenal. Mainoo has not been seen since sustaining a muscle injury in training. All three players have a chance of featuring against Forest.
One player who is more doubtful is defender Ayden Heaven. The January signing from Arsenal was forced off early in the second half against Leicester City. He has since provided an update on his Instagram saying he is recovering fast.
Nottingham Forest v Manchester United injury news: players out
Forest’s only injury concern is goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, who is sidelined with a hamstring problem. He has been kept out of the side by Matz Sels, who has enjoyed a fine season in-between the posts for Forest.
Lisandro Martinez is United’s longest-term injury concern and he is not set to return well into next season. Luke Shaw and Amad Diallo remain out but Amorim hopes to see both of those players before the end of the campaign. Diallo was initially set to miss the remainder of the season but could be back for the final games of the Premier League season - and the Europa League final if United get there.
Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans all remain out with separate issues and it is unclear if any of the trio will feature again before the end of the season. Heaton and Evans are both poised to leave United this summer, meaning they may have already played their final games.
