Over the last few months, FC Barcelona have been focusing a lot of their energies on ensuring the long-term continuity of some of the most important players in their squad. This is quite apparent from the renewals that several players have signed since the start of 2025, including Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi, and Inigo Martinez.
Meanwhile, negotiations with several more players are underway for their renewals, and one of the players whose contract the Blaugranes would be looking to address with the highest priority is the youngster, Lamine Yamal.
In a recent interview, the winger clarified that he will not discuss his new contract with the Catalan club till the end of this season. His last contract renewal came in 2023, when he was still a minor and his contract goes till 2026, as FIFA regulations allow only 3-year contracts for players below 18.
However, he and his agent had also arrived at an agreement to extend his contract till 2030 when he came of age.
However, with the way Yamal’s status in the Barcelona team and in football in general has grown, the Blaugrana club believes he should get a significantly improved contract, and in this regard, there is one example they do not want to follow.
According to Diario AS, this example is that of their biggest legend, Lionel Messi, who signed a total of 9 new contracts during his time at the Catalan club, twice in 2005, then in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2014, and then twice again in 2017.

However, to avoid this, Barcelona are looking to offer him a progressive contract, so there would be no need to review their terms of association every few years as the youngster continues to grow and develop.
