A 56-year-old Indian origin man and his 24-year-old daughter were killed at a shooting in a general store in the US state of Virginia. As per local reports, the suspect behind the shooting has been arrested and charged with murder.

Pradipkumar Patel and his daughter were working at the store on Lankford Highway in Accomack County when the shooting incident happened. The incident occurred on March 20, 2025.

Patel died on the spot while his daughter was transferred Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was in critical condition.

However, his daughter also succumbed to her injuries. On Thursday, Accomack County Sheriffs arrested the man behind the shooting. As per reports, the suspect was 44-year-old George Frazier Devon Wharton and is currently being held in Accomack Jail.

The suspect has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

Paresh Patel, who is the owner of the store, shared that both victims were his family members.

“My cousin’s wife and her dad were working this morning and some guy come here and they just shot,” WAVY-TV, a television station in Virginia, quoted Paresh as saying.

“I don’t know what to do,” he added.
