**GAZA CITY, Palestine**
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced on Sunday that Israeli forces had surrounded and besieged several of its ambulances in an area targeted by airstrikes in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, injuring multiple paramedics.
“Occupation forces are besieging several Palestine Red Crescent ambulances while they were responding to an attack on Al-Hashashin area in Rafah,” the society said in a statement.
It added that several emergency medical teams have been injured, without specifying the number of casualties or the severity of their wounds.
Palestinian Red Crescent also noted that “contact has been lost with the team, which has been trapped for several hours.”
Since the start of its military offensive on Gaza, Israel has repeatedly targeted healthcare facilities, ambulances, and medical personnel, further exacerbating the already dire humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
More than 700 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,000 injured in a surprise aerial campaign by Israel on Gaza since Tuesday, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January.
Nearly 50,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and more than 113,000 injured in a brutal Israeli military onslaught on Gaza since October 2023.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
