West Ham ready to move for Sunderland ace this summer

Sunderland prospect Chris Rigg has emerged on the radar of West Ham, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Sunderland are likely to face a battle to keep hold of the attacking midfielder this summer. SAFC are currently looking to get promoted to the Premier League and are sat in 4th place in the Championship table.

Rigg, 17, has risen up through the academy ranks of the Black Cats and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He has broken into their first-team over the past couple of seasons and is now one of their most prized assets.

In this latest update regarding his situation at the Stadium of Light, reporter Nixon has claimed on his Patreon page that West Ham are ready to move for him in the next transfer window. They are managed by former Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea boss Graham Potter these days.

Sunderland’s Chris Rigg wanted by West Ham

Rigg has a bright future ahead of him and Sunderland will want to retain his services for as long as possible.

The teenager made his senior debut back in January 2023 in an FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town.

He has since made 61 appearances for the Black Cats in all competitions, 36 of which have come this season, and he has scored seven goals.

Regis Le Bris’ side are eyeing promotion to the top flight and are in the play-offs along with Burnley, Coventry City and West Brom.

If they don’t go up though, they are vulnerable to losing their key players like Rigg.

He penned his first professional contract last July and his deal runs until June 2027 meaning he still has a couple of years left to run.

After putting pen-to-paper, he told their website at the time: “I am absolutely buzzing, to be honest. It is a proud moment for myself and my family to be signing my first professional contract at a Club like Sunderland. I have been dying to sign it for almost a year now. I want to develop as a player and improve as a person – and I believe this is the best place for me to do that.”

Will Chris Rigg stay at Sunderland?

Time will tell whether West Ham end up lodging an offer for Rigg. Sunderland would have a decision to make if a big money bid came in.
