With 19 Premier League goals so far this season and international acclaim for his performances, it’s fair to say that Alexander Isak is arguably the most in-demand player in the league at the moment.
Contracted to Newcastle until 2028, a chance to leave a long lasting legacy as the club’s second-top goalscorer in the division is more than in his grasp.
And according to the latest reports, Newcastle remain committed to keeping their star man despite interest both domestically and from abroad.
Speaking on NBC Sports Soccer, renowned journalist David Ornstein discussed just how well Alexander Isak has done this season, and how the club intends to reward the player for his truly landmark campaign so far.
“Alexander Isak is the hottest property in the Premier League, I think that’s fair to say, and that’s because of his goalscoring record and what he’s done at Newcastle United.”
The crown jewel in Eddie Howe’s Champions League-chasing side, the £60m+ that the Magpies spent on the Swede is looking more and more like a bargain with every passing month.
With the club’s immensely high ambitions under PIF and Yasir Al-Rumayyan’s stance recently revealed, Ornstein corroborates recent reports that Newcastle have no desire nor need to sell their main man.
“Newcastle have no intention of selling Isak: they’ve got him under contract until 2028, they pay him very handsomely, and if anything, they want to renew his deal and build with him for the future, not without him.”
“The talk around the industry is that a figure in the region of £150m even to discuss it with Newcastle – but that’s all hypothetical at this point.”
However, as Ornstein points out, Isak’s prolific goalscoring is attracting major interest, particularly in a market with a distinct lack of credible goalscoring no.9s where (arguably) only Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe stand above Isak.
“Mikel Arteta, for example, would love to sign him for Arsenal. He’s at the top of their list if they’re going to recruit a striker this summer, which they intend do.”
And it’s not just the Gunners, who Isak scored against in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, interested in Isak’s signature: NBC lists Liverpool, Chelsea, and even Barcelona as other potential suitors for the former Real Sociedad man, not that this will change Newcastle’s stance!
