The latest team news and predicted line-up for England ahead of their World Cup qualifying match against Latvia.
Thomas Tuchel may ring the changes as he looks to follow a 2-0 win over Albania with another victory over Latvia at Wembley on Monday evening – and he will be without at least one player who made it onto the pitch for his first match as England manager.
Anthony Gordon picked up an injury after coming on as a substitute against Albania and is likely to be ruled out for the game against Latvia, who defeated minnows Andorra 1-0 in their opening game of World Cup qualifying last week.
Otherwise, there will be speculation over the role of several starting players including Phil Foden, who once again struggled to play his best football for the Three Lions. We’ve got the latest team news and predicted line-up for Monday’s match below, along with an update on Gordon’s condition.
Potential changes in defence
England’s new-look defence enjoyed a partially successful outing against Albania, but there are likely to be one or two changes as Tuchel gives players the opportunity to earn a spot in his long-term plans.
Ezri Konsa impressed on Friday evening while Myles Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a dream debut, playing well and scoring the opening goal, but Dan Burn struggled to deal with Armando Broja and Kyle Walker had a quiet match, so their places could be under threat. Either Levi Colwill or Marc Guéhi – perhaps both – are likely to start against Latvia, while Reece James could be given a start after making a late cameo appearance against Albania.

Declan Rice and Curtis Jones are likely to start in midfield once more despite the presence of Jordan Henderson, who Tuchel explained was brought into the squad after numerous players spoke highly of him. If Tuchel decides to take a more attacking stance against Latvia, Morgan Rodgers could start over Jones.
Gordon injury news as Foden place threatened
Newcastle winger Gordon picked up a hip injury after coming on as a second-half sub against Albania and appeared to be in considerable discomfort, limping down the tunnel for treatment at the end of the match.
Tuchel has admitted that the injury “does not look good” and while a detailed prognosis has not been provided as yet, it is not expected that Gordon will be fit for the match day squad on Monday, with Morgan Gibbs-White likely to be elevated to the bench.
That doesn’t guarantee that Marcus Rashford will start, however, with Tuchel gently criticising both his performance and that of Phil Foden, who struggled to make an impact for England once again.
“Both our wingers who started were not as impactful as normally they can be in club football,” Tuchel said. “We lacked a little bit runs off the ball, so it was a little bit too much passing, not enough dribbling, not enough carrying the ball and driving with the ball. Not aggressive enough towards goal.”
With Jarrod Bowen pushing for starting honours, one of Foden or Rashford is likely to start on the bench against Latvia. Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham should keep their places, with no indications as yet that Tuchel plans to experiment too wildly with his first squads.
