MOT Leeds News speaking to Paul Robinson

Kalvin Phillips has been linked with an emotional return to Leeds United ahead of the summer window.
As for now, Leeds’ only focus will be on achieving promotion back to the Premier League before any considerations are made on the recruitment front, though will still have one eye on any potential early deals.
With eight games to go, Leeds remain in the driving seat to achieve that ultimate goal, though form will have to improve if they are to get over the finish line.
Once that is achieved, Leeds will have plenty of work to do in the summer, and one of those decisions could see the return of Phillips to Elland Road.

Leeds to seal ‘real coup’ with Phillips signing
Ever since his departure from Elland Road, Phillips has struggled at large, and links connecting him with a return to Leeds United have certainly sparked interest.

Whether the Whites act on that interest is yet to be seen, but Paul Robinson – when speaking to MOT Leeds News – thinks he will want the move.
He said: “I think it’d be a brilliant move for all parties. I think that would be a real coup. Ever since he left, has struggled. And he’ll be the first one to say that.
“His time at West Ham didn’t go particularly well for him. At Ipswich this season, he’s playing a lot more. But obviously, playing in a side that’s struggling, the opportunity if Leeds go up next year, it would just seem right.

Phillips has played the majority of his career with Leeds
“It’d just seem a really good fit for everyone. I think he’d be welcome back with open arms. And that stability in the Premier League that Leeds would need, it’d be the best signing that they could make in the summer.
“I think you look in the midfield. Ao Tanaka, Joe Rothwell and Ethan Ampadu have obviously been injured. Ilia Gruev plays in there. Kalvin Phillips plays ahead of all of them. Kalvin Phillips and Ampadu, potentially, as a holding midfield pair in the Premier League next year. It would be a key signing.
“I think that’s one way you go, OK, we’ll not necessarily break the bank, but we’ll pay whatever it takes. And I think the player would welcome it as well.”

Leeds must invest smartly this summer
If Leeds are promoted, they must take notice of the struggles that have haunted the recently promoted teams this season.
If that is to be avoided, smart recruitment is a must, and the signing of Phillips would be a perfect way to start it.
Not only does he know the league, but he knows the club, which can often be crucial in scenarios like the one that Leeds are likely to find themselves in next season.
