Nuno Espirito Santo has Nottingham Forest on course for Champions League football, though a Tottenham return could be on the cards.

Tottenham will almost certainly be looking for a new manager next season, given the failures they have showcased in the Premier League this campaign.

While Daniel Levy has had his part to play, Ange Postecoglou has shouldered the majority of the blame, and rightfully so given the growing number of concerns that emerged surrounding his ability to lead the team forward.

Several managers have already been linked with the job, though Nuno is one who could be a surprise contender.

Postecoglou could be replaced by Nuno this summer

Tottenham’s season is hinging on whether or not they can win the Europa League, though Postecoglou could be sacked even if that were to happen.

All the signs are pointing towards his exit at some point over the next few months, and Paul Robinson – when speaking to Tottenham News – thinks that Nuno will be considered by Spurs despite how his last tenure ended in North London.

Robinson said: “[Levy] got it wrong with Nuno Espirito de Santo. You look at it now, his name would certainly be in the frame if the job came available. But actually, the timing, the person, the timing in the club, it was just a wrong fit for Nuno at the time.

Nuno didn’t last long at Tottenham last time

“But you look at what he’s done at every other club, maybe he wasn’t given enough time at Tottenham. But I think with the hiring and firing of managers over the years, you’ve got to back the managers with players.”

Given the fact Nuno is all but set for European competition with Forest next season, it seems unlikely that he would accept the job if he were to be offered it.

Tottenham set for make-or-break summer

Regardless of whether or not Spurs win the Europa League, this season will go down as a failure, given the frailties they have showcased domestically.

Tottenham should be challenging for a place in the top four, yet they currently find themselves sitting miserably down in 14th.

Levy will need to make some big decisions this summer, starting with the successor to Postecoglou when he inevitably faces the sack.
