Arsenal-Real Madrid: UCL Quarter-Finals

UCL quarter-finals are set to have an amazing battle between Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Real Madrid move past Atletico to face Arsenal in the last-eight

Real Madrid has done it again. Even in defeat, Europe’s most decorated club manages to win. **Atlético**‘s Conor Gallagher got the only goal of Wednesday’s match inside of a minute. Brazilian superstar Vini Jr. missed a penalty in the second half. But that could not stop the Los Blancos from winning in the end.

Atlético did everything they could to find the second goal they needed to avoid extra time. And they wanted to put the game away. But, their neighbors simply rode their luck during the knockout stage. Alvarez’s almost successful shootout attempt was flagged by the video assistant for a double touch.

The score may disappoint a neutral week after week. Some are tired of seeing the Spanish side’s magic in the biggest European competition every other year. But no one is ever surprised.

Winning is what the fifteen times UCL winners do in the European competitions. Of course they were going to survive. And of course they remain the favorites to win another title this coming May.

Mikel Arteta’s side have the best defense in Europe

Arsenal will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals. The Gunners secured a match up with the 15-time European champions. They won against PSV Eindhoven 9-3 on aggregate in the last 16. The Gunners will go into it as heavy underdogs. As the La Liga side also advanced in the tournament.

The Gunners face the added disadvantage of playing the second leg at the Bernabéu. But Mikel Arteta’s side will have some belief that they can spring an upset. They have one of the best defensive units in Europe

Although they have all kinds of injury problems in attack. They have great depth at the defensive end of the pitch. Against PSV, in the second-leg at one point they had six players on the field who could play as a left back.

The north London side has conceded the least amount of goals in the Premier League this season. The next best defense (Liverpool) have played a game more. And they have been excellent in Europe.

Wednesday night against PSV was the first time they have conceded at home in the Champions League this season. They rotated the defense a bit with Jurrien Timber and William Saliba on the bench.

Ben White returning from injury will allow Arteta to field a back four. That may include White, Gabriel, Saliba and Timber.
