Felix Nmecha was once deemed surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City - but now, he could be making a return to the city this summer.

The German midfielder spent most of his youth career at Manchester City's academy, making it into just one Premier League matchday squad and providing an assist in a 3-0 Champions League victory over Olympiacos in 2020. After nearly five years climbing the ranks in Manchester, Nmecha was considered unsuitable for the first team and moved to Wolfsburg on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

Over two years, Nmecha made a name for himself at the Bundesliga club, notching up 50 appearances alongside three goals and seven assists in an attacking midfield role. His performances caught the attention of fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, who signed Nmecha on a five-year contract in 2023.

The deal, worth a staggering £25million (€30m), ties him to the club until 2028 - but a return to England could be on the horizon this summer.

Nmecha might be set to return to the Premier League and with report interest from his former club's city rivals Manchester United.

According to Bild, the Red Devils are planning to start with a £40m (€48m) offer to the Bundesliga club, who may be looking to offload excess players this summer.

Niko Kovac, the manager of Borussia Dortmund, is set to face a challenging summer as he attempts to retain his top players. This comes as European football continues to become increasingly unlikely, with Dortmund languishing in 11th place in the Bundesliga.

Despite only contributing to five goals this season, Nmecha has been one of Dortmund's standout performers and won't be available for a bargain price. Sky Sports Germany reports that the 24-year-old is valued at a minimum of £42m (€50m) by the German club.

His long-term contract means that United must dig deep into their pockets to persuade Dortmund to sell.

City boss Guardiola has previously praised Nmecha but chose not to offer him a new contract, allowing him to seek opportunities elsewhere to further his career. This decision was made four years ago when his contract expired.

Should Nmecha make a move to United this summer, he would join a list of former City stars, including Jadon Sancho, who have switched allegiances to their city rivals.

United are also reportedly interested in several other attacking midfielders, with Kenan Yildiz and Xavi Simons also being considered.
