Manchester United have announced a 5% increase in season ticket prices for the 2025/26 season, marking the third consecutive year of price hikes – a move that has sparked frustration among supporters and criticism from fan groups.
In an official statement released by the club, United said the increase was necessary “*in order to keep pace with rising costs and to ensure ongoing investment in the stadium and matchday experience.*”
The club emphasised that the rise would apply “across all general admission season tickets,” while also confirming that cup ticket schemes would remain optional.
Fans Voice Their Frustration
Despite the club’s rationale, many fans are far from satisfied. The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) condemned the decision, stating:
“*We strongly oppose the decision to raise ticket prices again. This increase is tone-deaf, particularly in the current financial climate, and given the performances fans have had to endure on the pitch.*”
Fans have taken to social media to express their outrage, with some labelling the move “disrespectful” and “out of touch.” A report from Goal.com highlighted the growing unrest, quoting one fan who said:
“*Another season of mediocrity and they have the audacity to raise prices? It’s an insult.*”
Tensions Continue To Rise
The backlash isn’t limited to online venting. Speaking to BBC Sport, several supporters questioned the timing of the announcement, given the club’s ongoing struggles on the pitch and the lack of silverware in recent seasons.
“*How can they justify this when we haven’t had a trophy-winning season and the atmosphere at Old Trafford is deteriorating?*” one fan asked.
As tensions rise, there’s increasing concern that the decision could deepen the rift between the club’s ownership and its core fanbase.
The board must tread carefully – the frustration felt by loyal supporters is palpable, and continued disregard for their voices could spark renewed protests or even boycotts, reminiscent of the anti-Glazer demonstrations seen in recent years.
Manchester United’s legacy is built on passion, history, and unwavering fan support. The club’s hierarchy would do well to remember that loyalty is a two-way street.
