Having endured a run of four harrowing defeats on the spin at the start of December, Wolves looked all but set to be relegated from the Premier League this season.
Wolves’ defeats to Bournemouth, West Ham and fellow relegation candidates Ipswich Town and Everton saw them drop down to 19th place in the Premier League table – a worrying five points adrift of safety.
That run of form forced the Fosun Group into drastic action, with Gary O’Neil being replaced by Vitor Pereira as first-team manager. Since then, Pereira has managed to steady the ship at Molineux, racking up impressive wins over Manchester United, Bournemouth and Southampton among others to help the club rise back up to 17th in the table.
Now sitting nine points clear of 18th-placed Ipswich Town heading into the final nine games of the 2024/25 season, Pereira’s side look to have staved off the threat of relegation, but how many more points do they need to categorically retain their place in the Premier League?

Opta predicts Wolves don’t need any more points to avoid Premier League relegation
According to Opta’s predicted table for 2024/25, Wolves actually don’t need to bag a single point from now until the end of the season.
And that’s because, according to their predictions, 18th-placed Ipswich Town are set to accumulate 24.29 points at the end of their 38 game campaign – two points less than Wolves have right now.
19th-placed Leicester City’s predicted points tally is similarly grim reading for their fans, with the Foxes being predicted to tally up just 23.76 points.
Position Team Current Points Opta Predicted Points
17th Wolves 26 37.11
18th Ipswich 17 24.29
19th Leicester City 17 23.76
20th Southampton 9 14.67

Rather than see their nine-point lead over their relegation rivals be cut into, Opta are predicting that Wolves actually extend it to a comfortable 13 points. Pereira’s side are expected to rack up another 11 points in their final nine games to take their season tally to 37 points from 38 games.
MORE WOLVES STORIES
The magic mathematical safety number is obviously a bit higher than that, with the Old Gold technically needing 44 points to secure their Premier League survival. That 44 points tally, however, is based on the incredibly unlikely event that Ipswich or Leicester City win all nine of their remaining games of the season.
Considering the two sides have combined to win seven games all season, a run of nine straight seems fairly impossible at this moment in time.
Wolves’ remaining fixtures of the 2024/25 Premier League season
While Opta don’t think Wolves need a single point between now and the end of the season, there’s no doubt that fans will be much happier if they racked up a few more wins in the coming weeks.
There will be plenty of opportunities to do so as well, as Wolves are set to face off against both Ipswich and Leicester between now and then end of the season. Wins over both would relegation candidates would see the Old Gold comfortably secure their place in the top flight for another season.
Wolves fans will also be confident of taking points of struggling giants Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in mid-April too, having already taken four from the two sides during the first few weeks of Pereira’s tenure at the club in December.
The Old Gold will then conclude their 2024/25 campaign with a trip to Crystal Palace and a home game with Brentford on 25th May.
