Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly considering a move for Leroy Sane in the summer transfer window. The two have previously worked together at Manchester City, sparking rumours of a potential reunion.
Sane made the switch from City to Bayern Munich in 2020 and has since clocked up more than 200 appearances for the Bundesliga giants. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of this season, he could be snapped up on a free transfer.
The Gunners may have an opening in their forward line come the end of the season. Raheem Sterling, currently on loan from Chelsea, has failed to make a significant impact and is unlikely to secure a permanent move.
Despite being 29, Sane's experience could prove valuable to Arsenal's relatively young squad. Especially as they are expected to lose veteran player Jorginho, who is tipped to sign with Flamengo by the end of June, if not earlier.
As reported by The Sun, Arsenal's interest has been piqued by the lack of progress in contract talks between Sane and Bayern. This follows BILD's earlier report that there have been no discussions about extending the deal he signed upon joining Bayern in the summer of 2020, reports the Mirror.
Arsenal's search for attacking reinforcements continues, with links to various forwards including Benjamin Sesko and Lille's Jonathan David. Despite a failed attempt last summer to bring Sesko to the Emirates Stadium, he remains on the radar, while interest in David has waned following his expressed preference for La Liga.
"I wouldn't say [La Liga] would be my preferred league, but it's a league I enjoyed watching more so [than others]," David told the I't's Called Soccer! Podcast. "One day, I would like to play there. But will that happen? I don't know. I'm not opposed to anything. We'll see where the future takes us."
The Gunners have been struggling upfront due to injuries, missing key players like Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz for the rest of the season. However, the return of Gabriel Martinelli and the potential comeback of Bukayo Saka against Real Madrid in the Champions League offer some hope.
