Four transfer targets for Nottingham Forest to cast their eye over again this summer

An important transfer window is fast approaching for Nottingham Forest as attention turns to their end-of-season plans.

All being well, the Reds will be looking ahead to a European campaign by then. Nuno Espirito Santo's side are third in the Premier League table with nine games to go and are closing on Champions League qualification.

With that in mind, the City Ground will likely see a fair few ins and outs this summer. NottinghamshireLive looks at whether Forest could revive their interest in any of their previous transfer targets.

Yoane Wissa

It would be no surprise to see Forest try their luck with Brentford forward Wissa again in the summer. They had a bid, said to be in the region of £18-22 million, rejected in January as Bees boss Thomas Frank took a firm stance over his prized asset.

Up front is an area the Reds will certainly target for strengthening at the end of the campaign. Head coach Nuno has acknowledged the winter window was a “difficult” one to operate in, so the club will try again in a few months’ time.

Yuri Alberto

Back in November, Forest were said to be keen on Corinthians’ Alberto as they looked to bolster their forward ranks in the winter window. With no striker signed in January, the Reds have since been tipped to reignite their interest in the Brazilian in the summer.

According to recent reports from Italy, Forest are among the sides to have been in touch with Alberto’s agent as they put future plans in place. West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth and Fulham were said to have done the same.

Richard Rios

Forest were first linked with the Palmeiras midfielder last summer as Nuno was putting together his squad for the new campaign. They were then credited with an interest again in January but strengthening in midfield was not exactly a priority at the time.

The Reds are said to have watched the 24-year-old a lot. However, they are not the only ones to have been eyeing him up as Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be keen. Rios reportedly has a €100 million (£84m) release clause in his contract, although reports have suggested it would take a fee of less than that to prise him away.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Liverpool goalkeeper Kelleher was on Forest’s radar last summer as they looked at a reshuffle between the posts. According to TBR Football, the club retain an “active interest” in the 26-year-old. Chelsea, Bournemouth and Newcastle United are also said to be keen.

Given the form Matz Sels has been in this term, there is a debate over whether Nuno needs a new No.1. Nevertheless, Kelleher is expected to leave Anfield in the summer and there is a question mark over where he will go.
