SEOUL - A subway train derailed in Guro-gu, Seoul, at around 7.50am on March 23, with no injuries reported as of 9am, according to railway authorities.
Services have been halted in the counter-clockwise direction between Seoul National University (Gwanak-gu Office) and the Hongik University Station. Operations for the trains on the clockwise direction are fully functional.
The train, operating on the main section of Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line No. 2, was departing from a depot at Sindorim Station when it collided with a buffer, the city’s main subway operator Seoul Metro said.
One of the 10 cars of the subway train was derailed, and no passengers had been aboard the train at the time of the accident.
A power outage related to the accident stopped operations on Line No. 2’s Sinjeong Branch Line, which starts at Sindorim. Trains were halted in both directions on the branch line, which runs to Kkachiasan, from 10.17am and 10.35am.
Seoul Metro has deployed a total of 11 buses to run between the affected sections as alternate transportation.
The state-run company has set up a response headquarters at Sindorim Station to deal with the aftermath of the accident. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
