A new chapter begins for several players who have joined the Miami Dolphins in free agency.
Quarterback Zach Wilson is the most recognizable name. The former No. 2 overall pick agreed to a one-year deal and is expected to serve as Tua Tagovailoa's backup.
This move marks his third team in as many years. Wilson played second-string quarterback after being traded to the Denver Broncos last season. Before that, he spent three seasons with the New York Jets, the franchise that selected him in the 2021 NFL Draft.
His time in New York was anything but smooth. Early struggles as a rookie led to a turbulent stretch in which he was repeatedly shuffled in and out of the starting role.
Speaking on the Dolphins' Drive Time Podcast, the 25-year-old journeyman acknowledged his prior mistakes in the NFL with hopes of having a better future in the pros.
"It was challenging," Wilson spoke of his time with the Jets. "There's things, looking back, I wish I could've done so much better, maybe would've approached differently, but I think, at the end of the day, it's all part of the story. Learning from those experiences and those hard times ultimately is what got me here and hopefully being able to take advantage of the opportunity here."
It's a mindset that will help set up Wilson for better times with his new team.
Should he see the field, Wilson will have star wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle at his disposal. He might also have the chance to compete against the Jets as both are in the AFC East division.
