Report: Manchester United still want to sign promising January target, but Manchester City are now in the race

Manchester United are expected to move for a new goalkeeper this summer but Ruben Amorim may face a real battle for a key target.

Manchester United face a big summer window with Ruben Amorim’s squad requiring major reinforcements.

A striker is a prime target with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike on United’s radar whilst playmaker Xavi Simons is wanted at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff is the latest name linked with United, so multiple positions are being explored well in advance of the summer window.

Goalkeepers are expected to be on United’s radar too with Amorim eyeing two shot-stoppers according to reports in January.

Manchester United face Senne Lammens battle

Andre Onana has come under fire this season and Altay Bayindir may want to leave United for first-team action elsewhere.

Add in that Tom Heaton is out of contract this summer and United are likely to be active in the goalkeeper market.

A prominent name in the mix is Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.

More United News

Reports in January suggested that United were keen to sign Lammens with the Belgian emerging as a real talent.

United weren’t able to sign Lammens though as Cesc Fabregas brought Antwerp goalkeeper Jean Butez to Como, meaning Lammens wasn’t available.

The Sunday Mirror (23/03, p79) report that United are still keen to sign Lammens – but winning the race has become even trickier.

They suggest that a host of Premier League clubs have now joined the hunt with Manchester City, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers now keen.

Much will surely now depend on playing time with Lammens almost certainly being viewed as competition for Onana – at least initially.

If other clubs offer the kind of playing time he has been receiving in Belgium, United may well miss out.

Other goalkeepers on Manchester United radar

Lammens will not be the only name on the radar though with so many goalkeepers linked to United of late.

Burnley’s James Trafford is on United’s wish list with Jason Wilcox familiar from their time together at Manchester City.

Wigan Athletic’s Sam Tickle has caught United’s attention and represents a homegrown option just like Trafford.

United were linked with Espanyol’s Joan Garcia earlier this year and Parma’s Zion Suzuki remains on the radar.

Lammens will not be the only option for United this summer and those other goalkeepers on the wish list may well become more and more important as the list of Lammens’ suitors grows.
