Afghan Taliban say US has lifted 10M award for information on interim interior minister

**ISTANBUL**

The US has lifted a $10 million reward offer for information leading to the arrest of Taliban-led interim Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, an Afghan Interior Ministry spokesperson said on Sunday.

Years ago, the US accused Sirajuddin Haqqani of organizing deadly attacks against US-led forces in Afghanistan and the then-Afghan administration and announced a reward for information leading to his arrest.

The $5 million rewards for Abdul Aziz Haqqani and Yahya Haqqani have also been revoked, spokesperson Abdul Matin Qani said.

A press release from 2009 US Department of State stated that Sirajuddin Haqqani was as "a senior leader of the Haqqani terrorist network" and said that Haqqani "admitted planning the January 14, 2008 attack against the Serena Hotel in Kabul that killed six people, including American citizen Thor David Hesla," during an interview with a media outlet.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump’s Hostage Affairs envoy Adam Boehler met with Taliban-led interim Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Afghanistan.

The Taliban also released an American national and Delta Airlines mechanic George Glezmann after more than two years in detention.

Muttaqi described the visit by the US delegation as “a good development in bilateral relations."
