Arsenal can feel more confident in a potential future transfer move for Alexander Isak as Barcelona have reportedly lost interest in the striker.
Mikel Arteta's key objective this summer transfer window is to bring in a proven forward. Despite Mikel Merino scoring some important goals as a replacement striker, such as his winner against Chelsea, the Gunners need a long-term attacker.
Newcastle's Isak has become one of the hottest strikers on the market at the moment. His 23 goals in all competitions this season have grabbed the attention of Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool.
Barcelona also emerged as a rival to sign the Swedish striker, making the Gunners' efforts to secure Isak's signature a much tougher job. However, according to Spanish outlet Sport, the La Liga giants are unlikely to make a move for the 25-year-old.
Isak is still very much on the list at Barca, but the possibility of them making a hefty bid to sign the Magpie look to have severely dropped. Also, a hefty bid may be an understatement as The Sun reported that Newcastle would part ways with their lead striker for around £160m.

Barcelona's focus has shifted onto their own squad. Striking giant Robert Lewandowski could still sign a one-year extension, and former Manchester City striker Ferran Torres is seen as an instant swap if the Polish forward was to leave. Also, as has been discussed recently, Barca are experiencing some serious financial problems.
This now leaves Arsenal and Liverpool as the two main contenders to sign Isak who's profile recently increased having scored in, and won, the Carabao Cup final against Arne Slot's side.
If Arteta is to sign the Swedish international, it could be a key difference maker in challenging for next season's Premier League title after Arsenal fell behind this campaign.
