The level of player Aston Villa are likely to attract to the club in this coming transfer window is likely to be dependent on their ability to offer prospective new recruits European football - a second consecutive Champions League campaign would certainly make most of their transfer targets take notice.
Villa have nine league matches remaining and are still fighting in the [FA Cup](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/all-about/fa-cup) and Champions League, too, with the potential of a third straight year in Europe still a strong possibility - then, once Villa know where they stand in the late spring, attentions will eventually turn to next season and how the summer of recruitment looks.
Villa parted with Jhon Duran in the January transfer window and banked an initial fee comfortably in excess of £60m when he headed to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. They navigated the closing stages of the window by topping up their squad with high profile, short-term deals for Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford and Axel Disasi.
Another centre forward to accompany Ollie Watkins is expected to be towards the top of Unai Emery's wishlist in the summer; Watkins missed international duty because of an injury picked up in the win over Club Brugge in the Champions League and on those occasions where he is absent, it presents an issue for Emery to solve.
While the prospect of permanent deals for Villa's loan trio are expected to be explored depending on how the coming weeks pan out, new faces and more signs of on-field progress - within the confines of the P&S rules - are expected.
Villa have been linked again with Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres ahead of the summer; the Spanish international, who Emery admires, has previous experience of English football with Manchester City, but he returned to Spain a little over three years ago for £50m. Since, Torres has produced 54 goal contributions in 145 appearances.
Torres, who scored a brace in Barca's dramatic 4-2 win at Atletico Madrid last weekend, is currently behind first choice trio Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in Hansi Flick's Blaugrana starting XI and has interest from the top flight also from champions in waiting Liverpool.
Aside from Torres, though, Villa have also been credited with an interest in Juventus attacker Dusan Vlahovic; the Serbian made his name in Italy with Fiorentina, who he joined as a teenager in 2018. He has continued to maintain his reputation as one of the most potent forwards in Serie A in the three years he has spent at the Old Lady.
Even the links with Torres and Vlahovic not only point to the calibre of player who Villa are capable of attracting these days - players who would entertain the Lions because of their achievement of Champions League qualification - but specifically it hints at where in their squad Villa are anticipating strengthening this summer.
