Report: Enzo Maresca is considering alternatives to £70m Chelsea target despite positive update

It looks like it is going to be a very busy summer transfer window for Chelsea and Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea have already snapped up Dario Essugo and Geovany Quenda, with the former set to join the club this summer.

The Blues are also expected to sign a new striker, and it may not be long until one arrives at Stamford Bridge. It is being reported that Chelsea want to recruit a centre-forward before the end of June.

As well as a No.9, though, the club could also bring another central defender through the door.

Enzo Maresca exploring other options to Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen appear to be the centre-backs at the top of Chelsea’s shortlist.

It had been claimed that Liverpool were in pole position to sign Guehi, who is about to enter the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.

However, according to GiveMeSport, there is an expectation that Chelsea will be the ones at the front of the queue for their former academy player’s signature.

The Blues have already come out as victors against their Premier League rivals in the transfer window before.

In 2023, Chelsea signed both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia ahead of Liverpool. Lavia explained why he chose Chelsea, stating that former manager Mauricio Pochettino was one reason.

As for Guehi, there is no guarantee that the club actually make a move for him. Guehi’s valuation in the past has been £70m, so he is unlikely to come cheap this summer, while the same GiveMeSport report says that Maresca is still exploring other options.

Chelsea’s Marc Guehi alternatives

Again, as well as Guehi, Huijsen also appears to be a top target for Chelsea. At this point, it would be a surprise if they did not sign one of the two.

Chelsea and Real Madrid are both in for Huijsen after his impressive season at the Vitality Stadium.

Chelsea could make a move for Ousmane Diomande in the event that they could not land either Huijsen or Guehi, with the Sporting Lisbon youngster also on their radar.
