Cowboys Trading For Patriots’ Quarterback Predicts NFL Insider

FRISCO - With the NFL Draft just one month away, the "silly season" is beginning to rev up.

Speculation, predictions, projections, suggestions and potentially will dominant buzz words the next weeks, as NFL media, fans and even teams get in on the "what if" fun that surrounds the draft.

Right on cue, there's talk Sunday about a possible - here we go again - trade between the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots involving a second-year quarterback. No, not Drake Maye.

How about instead ... Joe Milton?

With Maye entrenched as their franchise quarterback, the Pats are said to be shopping Milton. He was a sixth-round pick last season and his Week 18 performance (22 of 29 for 241 yards and a touchdown, and a rushing touchdown) in a win over the Buffalo Bills caught the eye of many teams in search of a young quarterback with superior arm strength and elite mobility.

The Cowboys thought they were getting that when they traded for Trey Lance. Might they try again in a deal for Milton? ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler thinks so.

"One team to potentially watch is the Dallas Cowboys because they are looking for a good backup," Fowler said Friday on NFL Live. "A young backup with upside they may not get in the draft, maybe they get in a trade."

Reports out of Foxboro indicate the Pats are seeking a third-rounder for Milton, which might be too steep for Dallas to deal.

But with Cooper Rush gone in free agency and Lance having seemingly blown his shot, the Cowboys need a backup for Dak Prescott. Vice president Stephen Jones has stated that the team will likely draft a quarterback next month.

Or perhaps they can find one in Milton via trade.
