Jets Fans All Puzzled By The Same ‘Youth Movement’ Question

The New York Jets' new regime had a mountain of work to do after the failed Aaron Rodgers era, and general manager Darren Mougey and new head coach Aaron Glenn have gone about their business well.

Rodgers and Davante Adams are out, and Allen Lazard could join them. D.J. Reed was also moved on, but the franchise made several solid moves, with Justin Fields, Andre Cisco, Brandon Stephens, and Jamien Sherwood all coming in.

And there is a theme starting to develop for Glenn and Mougey, and for Pro Football Focus, when assessing the Jets' offseason of work, a youth movement is happening for Gang Green.

"After two years of attempting to make a playoff push, the Jets have retooled their approach by signing younger players in free agency who have shown flashes of talent in the past," Pro Football Focus writes. "All of their larger investments were in players who are 27 years old or younger, including Jamien Sherwood, Brandon Stephens, Andre Cisco and Justin Fields. The Jets are taking a more patient approach to success, which is likely a smart move after jumping the gun over the past two seasons."

The Jets certainly aren't in a rush to get everything done in the first month, and as Pro Football Focus stated, that is the smart play here. Except ...

Fans do have a reason to wonder about a puzzling thing: Is the goal to be "young'' or is the goal to be "good''?

The franchise knows this won't be an easy fix, but they have made several moves at important positions so that when the draft begins, they won't have to draft for need.

Yes, the offense still looms as a big concern, but with the No. 7 pick, they can go a host of ways to give Fields more weapons. Plus, with $27 million in cap space per Over The Cap, the Jets can still make some free agency moves too if they choose.

Will 2025 be a year when the Jets challenge? We know the answer to that. But moves have been made so the franchise isn't in the wilderness for too long. Glenn and Mougey are doing a good job of steering this troubled ship to calmer waters, with an emphasis on youth being key.
