'You could see': Sean Dyche shares one thing the Everton players just couldn't handle, but he…

Everton are undoubtedly in a much better place than they were a few months ago.

The Toffees have turned a corner under David Moyes, who came in in January as a replacement for Sean Dyche.

Dyche told The Friedkin Group he’d taken Everton as far as he could, leaving the owners little choice but to facilitate his exit from the club.

Dyche left Everton on the day of the club’s FA Cup game with Peterborough United.

Days later, Moyes was hired as his successor.

And since the Scot came in it’s been all positive for Everton, who are currently on a run of nine games unbeaten in the Premier League.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround – and Dyche has now suggested a new theory as to why the players struggled under him towards the end.

Dyche has now started opening up about his tie at Everton

Dyche did make a statement shortly after he left Everton via the LMA.

But he’s been relatively quiet about his time at Goodison – until now.

Earlier this week, Dyche praised Moyes for adding a new voice and changing the ‘flavour’ at Everton.

Today, he’s been on talkSPORT talking about his time at Everton, and theorised that the players struggled to cope with the size of the club – although that was something he didn’t have trouble with himself.

He said: “The weight of a club sometimes gets too much. And I think for the players, it got too much.

“I was OK with it, I learned about the size of the club and the feel and the weight of it. I was alright. But you could see in the players. It was time for me to go and have a chat with Kev Thelwell and go ‘Listen, this is what I’m seeing, this is what I’m thinking’.

“I’m putting it out there for the club because I insisted it was in better shape than when I left it than when we got there.

“We’d come through the challenges. And I knew deep down, they just needed a new… you know, sometimes you just need a new voice. Small details can change.”

It was time for change at Everton

It’s been interesting to hear Dyche touch on his time at Everton.

He makes it clear that he is proud of the job he did at Goodison. And to an extent, he did well, given the restrictions on the club in terms of PSR and the points deductions.

But it was time for change at Everton and he clearly felt that too. Without his change of stance, TFG would have backed him for a little while longer.

Thankfully he did help facilitate his own exit, and now Everton are in much better shape under Moyes.

It will be interesting to hear if any of the players come out and respond to this claim that they struggled with the weight of the club.
