Latest Arsenal injury news with Saka boost and early Gabriel return

Mikel Arteta will be hoping two stars return to Arsenal training next week, even though the remainder of March's international break is ongoing. The likes of William Saliba, Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice have all featured in the last week with more games to be played over the coming days.

Jurrien Timber, however, was one Arsenal player that did not play as illness kept him out of the Netherlands' 2-2 Nations League draw against Spain. As there was no injury - while left-back Jorrel Hato was sent off - it's possible Timber returns to the starting XI for the second leg.

Another game on that evening was Italy versus Germany with Riccardo Calafiori playing the whole match, but an injury worry did arrive late into that 2-1 defeat.

After awkwardly slipping and landing on his knee, the defender received treatment and his country have since officially confirmed he has returned to London Colney, with initial reports in Italy indicating he might face a race against time to be fit for April's Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.

Gabriel Magalhaes is another defender seemingly making an early return to England despite no injury being present after he played the entirety of Brazil's World Cup qualification win over Colombia. In that game, however, he was booked and with that yellow card being his second in the qualification campaign, he's suspended for next week's clash with Argentina.

Elsewhere, Bukayo Saka is likely making big strides towards a return with Arteta sure to have incorporated the 23-year-old in some parts of team training over the last week, as hinted at in his most recent update. "He's got a good chance [of returning in April]," the Arsenal head coach said in mid-March.

"He's going to be here [at London Colney], hopefully, more with the ball at his feet than he has had.

"He's getting closer; he's stepping up and making very good progress." Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu, meanwhile, have all been ruled out for the remainder of the season with the trio having undergone surgery.

Despite tearing his hamstring, Havertz will be the first to return with it expected he will be back in pre-season. Having suffered an ACL injury, Jesus should be available again around October time while Arsenal have claimed Tomiyasu is eyeing a return in late 2025.
