Our exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery celebrating 120 years of Chelsea Football Club is ongoing and has already been enjoyed by plenty of Blues fans.
The collection contains ten historic shirts, of which we profiled five yesterday. Here are stories behind the remaining five, with the full exhibition on Duke of York Square open for all until midday on Monday…
Petr Cech’s goalkeeping shirt from 2004/05
------------------------------------------
Our legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech was a key part of the tightest defence in English football history, as Chelsea conceded just 15 goals en route to the Premier League title in 2004/05. Very few shots got past Cech in this shirt!
JT skippered us to the first and to date only Double in our history in this shirt, one of a multitude of amazing achievements the longstanding defender – Captain, Leader, Legend – was central to in blue.
Frank Lampard’s record goalscorer shirt from 2013
-------------------------------------------------
It was in this shirt that Lampard broke the all-time Chelsea goalscoring record with the second of his two goals at Villa Park in May 2013. He reached 211 in our colours by the time he left the club a year later. It is a record that will take some beating.
Chelsea Women’s shirt from 2020/21
----------------------------------
The Blues lifted every major domestic honour and reached the final of the Champions League in this shirt. They were both first in Chelsea Women’s history.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s shirt from the Club World Cup in 2022
---------------------------------------------------------
With victory over Palmeiras in the final of the 2021 Club World Cup (played at the start of 2022) Chelsea could say they had won it all - as could our captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who lifted the prestigious trophy in this shirt.
