Chelsea have the chance to bolster their ranks in the summer transfer window
Chelsea have their sights set on making the Champions League this season. The Blues are battling for a place in the top four as they look to end the season on a high note.
They turned to Enzo Maresca as their manager last summer after cutting ties with Mauricio Pochettino. Prior to his switch to Stamford Bridge, he won the Championship title with Leicester City.
The London outfit have the chance to bolster their squad when the next transfer window opens for business. They also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door to help free up space and funds.
Chelsea target Jorrel Hato move
Chelsea are being linked with a move for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. According to CaughtOffside, they are admirers of the youngster along with Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid.
Hato, 19, can play at either centre-back or left-back which would make him a useful addition for the Blues if they managed to see off competition from elsewhere to land him. He is also young and has bags of potential to get better in the future.
The Holland international, who has made six caps so far, was on the books at Sparta Rotterdam as a child and rose up through their academy before Ajax swooped in for his signature in 2018. He has since risen his way into the first-team of the Eredivisie gaints.
Hato initially broke into their reserve team Jong Ajax before making the step up to the first-team. He has made 103 appearances already in his career and has chipped in with four goals.
His current club are likely to face a battle to keep hold of him down the line amid links to Chelsea and others. Maresca could see him as someone to strengthen his options at the back ahead of the next campaign.
Chelsea genius swap deal
In an attempt to prize Hato away from other suitors, Chelsea could use a player as part of a swap deal proposal. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s transfer to London hasn’t quite gone to plan and a change of scene would do him good next term.
The Blues snapped him up from Leicester after he played a key role behind their promotion last year under Maresca. However, he has struggled for game time and is down the pecking order.
Ajax already have one Englishman in Jordan Henderson and Dewsbury-Hall would be a smart acquisition if they were to get him. They would be able to offer him the chance to experience football in a new country and culture and they obviously play in Europe as well.
Dewsbury-Hall rose up through Leicester’s ranks and was a regular for the Foxes at various youth levels before he was loaned out to Blackpool and Luton Town to boost his development. He then went on to play 129 matches and fired 17 goals.
Since joining Chelsea, he has played 22 matches, only nine of which have in the league. His future is up in the air and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he left.
