The turnover may continue at Newcastle United this summer.
Indeed, Newcastle United have endured a frustrating time of things on the transfer front over the past few seasons, such have been the level of PSR restrictions at the club.
However, Newcastle insiders think they can spend this summer, having opted against making any significant investments all while selling players in recent windows.
Still, that doesn’t mean players won’t be leaving St James’ Park. Player trading plays a hugely important role in modern football and Newcastle frankly haven’t been good enough at it.
With that in mind, the future of midfielder Sean Longstaff looks interesting.
Newcastle academy graduate Longstaff is out of contract in the summer of 2026 and has been linked with a move away.
Everton are keen on Longstaff but it seems a certain Manchester United could revisit their interest.

Manchester United interested in shock move for Sean Longstaff
Man United looked to sign Longstaff in the summer of 2019 but were quoted £50million by Newcastle, with the midfielder having only just broken into the side at the time.

According to ESPN back then, the Old Trafford giants were “stunned” by his valuation and obviously they didn’t pursue their interest any further.
Now, The Chronicle claim Ruben Amorim’s side and Everton are keen on the 27-year-old and have scouted him this season.
It’s also said that Longstaff would leave Newcastle with a heavy heart, given his affinity with the club.
Sean Longstaff contract decision looms for Newcastle United
It would be a shame to lose Longstaff, who could provide useful depth to the Newcastle squad ahead of next season’s European campaign.
Still, should the club opt not to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2026, this summer is the logical time to sell.
Longstaff did not want to leave Newcastle in January due to the Carabao Cup final being so close. That was a wise decision, allowing the midfielder to lift a trophy with his boyhood club.
Now, however, it perhaps makes sense for him to leave. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali star in central midfield, while Lewis Miley and Joe Willock offer further competition.
