Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make a major announcement next week as the club looks to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
The Gunners have endured an underwhelming campaign by their recent high standards, falling behind in the Premier League title race. However, Mikel Arteta remains focused on the challenges ahead, particularly a crucial Champions League quarter-final clash against defending champions Real Madrid next month.
Despite injuries to key players, Arsenal opted not to make any signings in the January transfer window, a decision many have attributed to a lack of leadership at the executive level. Since Edu Gaspar’s departure in November, the club has been searching for an experienced sporting director, and reports indicate that they have reached an agreement with Andrea Berta, formerly of Atlético Madrid.

Renowned journalist David Ornstein recently reported that Arsenal have finalised an agreement with Berta to take over the role.
“The top choice for them was Andrea Berta, formerly of Atlético Madrid. They have reached an agreement with him to take over the role and are now in the process of finalising contracts,” Ornstein revealed.

Berta, known for his keen eye for talent and squad-building expertise, played a key role in transforming Atlético Madrid into a European powerhouse. Since joining the club in 2013, he helped guide them to two Champions League finals, two La Liga titles, and multiple domestic and international trophies. Under his leadership, Atlético broke the dominance of Barcelona and Real Madrid, cementing themselves as a force in Spanish football.
Following his departure from Atlético last December, Berta was eager for a fresh challenge at another top European club. Arsenal, aiming to win their first Premier League title since 2004, see him as the ideal figure to lead their long-term vision.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Arsenal are determined to reinforce their squad and remain competitive both domestically and in Europe. Berta’s arrival is expected to shape the club’s recruitment strategy, ensuring that Arteta’s side has the necessary depth and quality to compete at the highest level.
