49ers Labeled ‘Best Fit’ for Possible Charvarius Ward Replacement

The San Francisco 49ers have seen their fair share of players leave town this offseason and general manager John Lynch continues to re-tool the roster.

There will be plenty of holes to fill this summer through free agency and the draft for Lynch as the team attempts to upgrade key positions.

One of those positions will be cornerback.

The good news is - at least on paper - that the 49ers are listed as the "best fit" for veteran corner and former Defensive Player of the Year, Stephon Gilmore, by Bleacher Report.

"After playing extremely well for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023 (82.7 opposing passer rating), he was merely good for the Vikings in 2024," Knox wrote. "That said, Gilmore can still play, and he carries fewer questions than other players left on the free-agent cornerback market. A team signing him might not be getting a Pro Bowl talent at this point in his career, but it would be getting a solid, starting-caliber perimeter defender."\

"The San Francisco 49ers should take a long look at Gilmore between now and the draft. The 49ers lost starter Charvarius Ward to the Colts in free agency and have done little to address the void that loss created."

Gilmore would be a suitable replacement for the departed Charvarius Ward, who signed a free agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts earlier this offseason.
