The New York Jets have their quarterback for the next two years already locked down. Justin Fields appears to be firmly entrenched as the starter after the Jets threw a big bag of money at him in free agency.
He takes over for veteran Aaron Rodgers who was waived earlier this month.
However, according to one published report, the Jets could be looking for their backup quarterback, one who could take over for Fields in the event a catastrophe happened, in next month's NFL Draft.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic suggests the Jets draft former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe in either the second or third rounds. The speedster ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at Alabama's Pro Day last week.
It has been projected Milroe will not get drafted until after the third round, but if the Jets like him and he is still on the board in the third round, it would make perfect sense for them to go ahead and take him.
"As for the future, the Jets will see what they have in (Jordan) Travis this offseason. Signing Fields shouldn't preclude them from drafting a quarterback, though Round 1 feels less likely now," Rosenblatt said. "Alabama's Jalen Milroe would be an intriguing target on Day 2 considering his mobility could make him a weapon as soon as his rookie season while he develops as a passer behind Fields and Taylor. Jets quarterbacks coach Charles London ran drills with Milroe at the combine."

Tyrod Taylor and Jordan Travis who are also under contract with the Jets are not going to help the Jets in the long or short term. Taylor is a very pedestrian journeyman who can come in and mop up a game.
Travis, who suffered a gruesome leg injury his senior year at Florida State, still has not recovered from the injury and has not taken one snap.
Milroe, meanwhile, displayed his talents on the field while at Alabama. During his final season with the Crimson Tide, Milroe completed 64.3% of his passes for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while adding 756 yards and 20 rushing downs on the ground.
