Liverpool quoted more than £60 million for Serie A defender

Liverpool face rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby when the Premier League returns at the start of April.

The Reds currently sit 12 points clear at the top of the top flight table, although that advantage could be cut to nine points if second-placed Arsenal defeat Fulham in their next outing.

Having exited the FA Cup and Champions League since the turn of the year, as well as losing against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final, Arne Slot will be desperate to see his side maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Away from the action, it appears that Liverpool will have to pay a significant amount to sign one of their transfer targets this summer.

As per Football Insider, the Reds will have to spend in excess of £60 million to lure defender Alessandro Bastoni away from Inter Milan.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a target for Liverpool as they hunt for new recruits in defence, with the report claiming that the player is one of Liverpool’s top targets.

Bastoni has attracted interest from Liverpool

Current Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has less than six months remaining on his current contract with the club, although it is claimed that the Reds believe Bastoni could instantly improve Slot’s starting line-up and could be a long-term partner for Van Dijk.

Bastoni joined Inter from fellow Italian outfit Atalanta in 2017 and has now played more than 240 times for his current side across all competitions.

The defender is contracted to Inter until 2028, and the report claims that the Italian side are therefore in a commanding position and will demand a fee of more than £60 million if they are to part ways with the player.

Bastoni – who has been capped 34 times by Italy at international level – has played 41 times for Simone Inzaghi’s side so far this term.
