Barcelona are reportedly unlikely to launch a bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer, despite their long-standing interest in the Swedish forward.

Isak’s reputation has soared in recent weeks, with his 22nd goal of the season helping Newcastle secure the Carabao Cup, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy. Since joining the Magpies, the 25-year-old has amassed 58 goals in 100 appearances, attracting interest from top clubs across Europe.

Both Arsenal are keen on signing Isak, with Mikel Arteta eager to strengthen his attack. Barcelona have also been linked, with reports suggesting that key figures at the Camp Nou are “in love” with the striker.

However, according to Spanish outletSport, Barcelona are unlikely to sanction a mega bid for Isak this summer due to financial constraints and their focus on consolidating Hansi Flick’s squad.

Robert Lewandowski could sign a one-year contract extension, reducing the immediate need for a new striker and Ferran Torres is viewed as a capable backup option in attack.

Despite this, Barcelona have not abandoned their interest in Isak. The club reportedly held talks with his representatives late last year and could pursue a move in 2025, potentially funded by the sale of key players like Ronald Araújo.

With Barcelona seemingly out of the race for now, Arsenal could have a free run at signing Isak this summer. However, securing a deal will be far from easy.

Newcastle view Isak as indispensable and are not actively looking to sell. A transfer would likely require a significant bid exceeding £120 million, as the Magpies aim to retain their top talents and build on their recent success.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal will have to weigh the financial demands of a potential move, while Barcelona could yet re-enter the race in 2025 if their financial situation improves.
