Ex Steelers Quarterback Sill in Play for Giants

The New York Giants signed former Browns, Saints and Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal this offseason to fill their vacant position under center.

Now we're wondering if that was meant to be a backup role or to be the starter.

Multiple reports coming out of New York on Sunday indicate the Giants are still also interested in former Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson.

After Winston's signing, it was assumed the Giants were out of the running for a veteran quarterback, but Pro Football Talk quoted a source indicating otherwise.

"They are as much/more looking for a veteran starter than the Browns, definitely more than Vikings," the source said.

The same source is reported to have told PFT that the Giants are technically still in the running to land Aaron Rodgers, however unlikely it seems that he'll sign there.

The $4 million annual salary for Winston isn't the asking salary of a starting quarterback, so we might've guessed he's expected to be the backup for the Giants behind ... well, whoever else plays there.

Tommy DeVito is the only other quarterback on the roster and is expected to be the emergency third quarterback on game day. Next year is the final season of his current deal for $1.03 million.
