Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson Named Potential Trade Candidate

The Indianapolis Colts drafted Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. When the move was made, he was expected to be the clear-cut long-term option for the team.

Through his first two NFL seasons, Richardson has done nothing to prove the team right for taking him so high.

Due to his inability to play at a high level, the Colts went out in free agency and brought in quarterback competition. They signed former New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract.

Richardson is not guaranteed the starting job to begin the 2025 season. He will have to beat out Jones during training camp and preseason action.

Following the move to sign Jones, Richardson is now being viewed as a possible trade candidate.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes that teams needing a quarterback should consider calling Indianapolis about a potential trade for Richardson.

"Indianapolis, to this point, hasn't given Richardson the environment he's needed to succeed," Knox wrote. "That doesn't mean he can't still emerge as an above-average NFL starter. Given his age, the relative lack of QB depth in the 2025 class and the shrinking list of available veterans, it would behoove quarterback-needy teams to at least see if Richardson can be had."

At this point in his career, Richardson is still just 22 years old. He has time on his side to figure things out.

In his first two years, Richardson has only been able to play in 15 games due to multiple injuries and a short-term benching. He has completed just 50.6% of his passes for 2,391 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

His passing numbers haven't been good, but Richardson has made an impact on the ground with his size and athleticism. The young quarterback has picked up 635 yards and 10 touchdowns with his legs.
